Village of the future by OsloMedtech

On monday Oslo Medtech (OMT) hosted a special sesion presenting OMT members. More than 20 companies presented their products or projects. Topics spanned from research projects to, product presentations to 2 product launces. The first launch was made by Pubgene who had a world launch of the Coremine Medical (CM) product line. (CM CEO Odd Arild Lehne on picture). CM is a service/information retrival platform for the medicalinformation domain using medical terms and knowledge to index and analyze information from high quality medical information sources. A new project with Oslo University Hospital will integrate the CM platform with the OUS Clinical Data Warehouse and facilitate combination of context-based presentation of macro data (EPR, PACS, laparoscopic or endoscopic video) with molecular biology data (gene sequencing) facilitating tiloring of kemo-thereapy based on the patients phenotype.

The second product launch was made by iMedia Tracking presenting their products and sevices. specialise in the design and production of LBS (Location-Based Search) applications for mobile devices and mobile-to-web solutions. By combining mobile and web platforms with a simple and effective white label API solution iMT can easily integrate their mobile services into any existing web-based solutions.

IMIA Social Media Working Group – meeting & workshop

The IMIA Social Media Working Group (SMWG) ( held a successful meeting on Monday evening at MIE2011. Chaired by Dr Chris Paton, IMIA SMWG chair and Luis Luque, Secretary of the SMWG, the meeting attracted over 20 people.

Chris and Luis outlined the history of the SMWG and some past activities, as well as future plans. Much of the meeting was taken up by discussion among participants of possible future activities for the WG, and some possible areas that might be needed for future research.

Information o future plans will be distributed via the above blog pages.

On Tuesday 30 August, the SMWG will host a workshop at MIE2011, titled “Towards a Research Agenda for Social Media in Healthcare and Academia”. We will try to tweet and blog ‘live’ from the event.

Monday morning keynote – Palkonen

The opening keynote presentation this Monday morning is from Susanna Palkonen from the European Patient Forum. It is titled “New patient – new technologies, new networks”, and presents issues on patient involvement in ehealth, especially in the European area.

Tweets on key issues can be found from @luisluque.

Susanna says that patient empowerment is key to ehealth, but health literacy needs to be improved. Innovations in ehealth nave often not been user-driven in the past.
